I just finished one of my favorite projects! Dragon Puppets! This is done with first grades and I show them all kinds of ways to cut paper to make teeth, eyes, patterns, and even eyelashes. The results are always fun and the students are always excited to see. We spend some time watching Chinese dragon ceremonies as well as the Chinese lions because of their eyelashes. I do need to talk about some puppet etiquette at the beginning of the project and how the dragons can't bite other people, other dragons, or just be plain old rude! Then, we go through some folding to show how to make the mouth. Each step is fun and I feel that every student is successful in this art project.

The "Fizz" image is a reduction printmaking idea where 6th grade artists work with onomatopoeia as a design. They need to work through drawing in reverse, how to carve into printing blocks, and work with inks. They get really excited about it because it is usually a Jr. High process, but I have a mature 6th grade that can handle the project.

School's almost out for summer. There's just 2 more weeks. Don't miss the last installments of Teacher Reflections for the year.
