Last weekend, I traveled to Fort Wayne, IN for my first comic con as an exhibitor. It was a great experience, and even though my sales weren't what I expected, I still got my books out to new fans. I really enjoyed meeting people and talking comics or anything else.
The Womb Mates Podcast visited my booth and interviewed me while picking up some new comics. That was an exciting moment because I met 3 types of comic-con goers: The not-interested-but-polite buyer, the I-like-your-concept-new-fan con goer, and the I'm-already-a-fan.
One of my new fans was a Jr. High boy with his mother. He liked the idea of Pecos Bill and was more amazed that I wrote and drew the comic. He pulled out his only $5 bill and bought a copy of issue 2 (it's my favorite issue). I ended up giving him issue 1 as well. He came back a couple more times seeking my autograph. I also met a Math teacher and we talked comics and teaching and how to incorporate the 2. I really enjoyed making new fans.
I also enjoyed meeting my fellow creators. They were really helpful with convention rookie as myself. I don't think I could've had a warmer aisle as my first con. Our aisle felt like a block party, coming out to each other's booths, trading comics, and launching nerf darts across the row.
This was a great experience. Pecos Bill #1 was the top seller and Food Fight Wars was the next highest! Watch out cons, I'm coming back for more!
