With just one last week coming up, I'm winding down the art projects in Jr. High. The art project on the right was about freedom and how 7th graders interpret the term. We studied some Patriotic art and then I introduced complementary colors to them. They spent a couple of days mixing and painting swatches of all sorts of tints and shades of their complementary colors. During that time, they thought about how to create an artwork that expresses a freedom they believe in or wish they can experience now. The artwork with the passport represents the freedom to travel, and the artist painted passport stamps throughout the background for the feeling of traveling. I really like the stamps. She did a great job of painting them in a subtle way.

Once that artwork is finished, the 7th graders began working on a screenprint which will take them to the end of the week and year. I'm encouraging them to print on a mix of materials including clothing. I'm also trying to get them to swap screens with each other, but it's taking a few of them to break out of that.

Well, there's just one more week. Let's see where it takes me!
